Notice to Residents regarding Burn Permits Posted 8 June, 2011
Residents are reminded that as of 15 March, burn permits will once again be required for open burning. These permits are available from the Western Forest District Office. Information from the Department of Forestry website states:
...if you are within 200 metres of burnable vegetation including hedgerows, woods, grassland,
dry cereal crops, and marshes, you require a forest fire burning permit between March 15th and
December 1st each year. If you burn without a permit... you could be liable on summary
conviction of a fine between $200 and $1,000 plus fire suppression costs and any court or other
costs.
Furthermore, it is a violation of Town bylaws to have an open fire within Town limits without
the permission of the Fire Chief or his designated representative. For more information on Burn
Permits please visit our Permits page.
